Who we are

Although PAWS is a charity, in many ways it runs just like a business, the main differences are that:

  • we do not run the charity to make a profit

  • we rely on fundraising to generate the money we need to operate

  • we rely on the skill sets of volunteers, rather than paid employees.

This means we need volunteers who possess a wide range of skills – it’s not all about dog walking and cat cuddling!

Dog walkers and cat cuddlers are of course vital roles within PAWS and we certainly welcome applications from those who would like to work with the animals!

However, we would also love to welcome applicants who can bring skills from their own areas of expertise – the things you do in your normal job!

Who do we need?

We particularly need people with experience in the following areas:

  • Website & graphic design

  • IT

  • Legal

  • Cleaning

  • General administration

  • Purchasing

  • Cat Care

  • Dog Walking/Care (URGENTLY NEED)

  • Maintenence (URGENTLY NEED)

  • Fundraising

  • Social Media

Fundraising is absolutely key to raise money to pay our bills & care for the animals.  We are    always looking for people to help with events, coffee mornings and online fundraisers.  We regularly hold stalls at our events too, and we’re always looking for handmade items to sell – perfect for those who love to bake, knit, sew etc.

There are many ways you can help us by fundraising!  Why not:

  • Host an event in your own community to raise money

  • Donate items to be sold on our market stall

  • Raise sponsorship in an organised challenge like a sponsored swim or run

  • Plan your own event such as a cake sale or coffee morning

  • If you have a business you could consider having a donation tin on your counter

There is so much to do at PAWS, we particularly welcome volunteers with a ‘can do’ attitude that can turn their hand to a broad range of tasks – for example popping to the tip with some rubbish after you’ve walked a couple of the dogs.

We are an equal opportunities organisation, there are ways for anyone to get involved - don't let a mental or physical issue put you off - we are supportive & provide a safe & nurturing environment.

What we need from you

All we ask is that our volunteers:

  • Put the safety and wellbeing of our animals first - always close gates & pen doors!

  • Be kind, respectful & supportive to each other.

  • Do what you say you will do when you say you will do it.

  • Use the communication platforms in place to get involved, help organise, share experiences & feel part of the team.

  • Be an advocate, talk positively about PAWS with your friends, family, and acquaintances

  •

Volunteering is very much on your terms and in your own time, we will never ask our volunteers to carry out tasks they aren’t comfortable with or which conflict with their own commitments.  If you join our team, you will be joining what we like to think of as a family – we are all lovely, friendly people who will respect and value you. If you would like to join our team, please fill out the volunteer application form and we’ll get back to you.

*Please note volunteers must be aged 16 years or above and your own transport is a must as we are based in the hills outside Todmorden, with no public transport links.
