IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO ADOPT FROM PAWS DURING THE NEW LOCKDOWN PERIOD 5TH NOVEMBER TO 2ND DECEMBER.
You will be aware that the Government has announced a 4 week lockdown until 2nd December.
Pennine Animal Welfare Trust is working within the current DEFRA Guidance provided to rescue charities. This enables us to continue to safely home animals and take in those who are in urgent need of our care
Our homing procedurs during the lockdown period will therefore be:
- Rehoming will continue however this will be on a delivery basis only.
- Animals should be delivered to their new homes as a default, however if this absolutely cannot be done and it is considered reasonably necessary for welfare reasons, the dog can be collected from the centre by the new owner but they will need to abide by additional conditions:
- By appointment only
- Social distancing and other safety precautions must apply.
Owners may only be permitted to come to the centre to relinquish an animal in emergencies or when it is considered to be in the best interest of the animal's welfare. All relinquishments on site must be carried out in a Covid-secure manner.
Social distancing and safe handling protocols must be followed both when taking in animals and when giving them to their new owner.
Please note we will continue to accept PAWS animal returns where there is a safety or welfare concern.
Our staff and volunteers will be putting into practice the 'Hands, Face, Space' measures when meeting the public to ensure we keep each other safe during this period.
We thank you for your patience and support through this challenging period.
Charlie and Willow came back to PAWS after the previous adoption didn’t work out – their new owners’ work commitments changed!
But, it wasn’t long before these handsome boys were adopted again!
They have settled in really well – they’re very mischievous and give the family the run around! They love sleeping on the bed or wherever they like & having a bit of a battle with the grooming as cats do.
We are delighted to hear how well Albert has settled in Hampshire with his new owners Dianne & Rosemary, who one of our volunteers met half way (in Birmingham) to hand him over.
Dianne says: "We have all fell in love with him! We are keeping him to his strict diet but haven’t yet taken him to the vet for weighing. However, he shocked us all yesterday by running in the garden".
Alfie just loves his new home with his new owners and they've told us he celebrated his 1st birthday last Sunday.
Since moving to his new home, Alfie has been busy meeting new people and just loves his daily walks on the canal and in the park. He loves playing with toys and seemingly everyone buys him them (he received the toy chest pictured for his birthday to put them in). He loves Sunday dinners at his grandma's (whatever...
Hi PAWS, I saw on your Facebook you were after success stories so I thought I'd send you some pictures of Vince. We've had Vince a year now and he's now a narrowboat dog, where he lives with his best friend Lewis, a 14 year old labrador - who's taught Vince everything he knows! Here he is guarding his boat and with Lew on the sofa. Vincey likes lots of big walks and adventures (and chasing deer!), but he's also now a great pub...
"Jasper and Oliver adopted us 17 months ago," says Lyn, "They were about 6 months old at the time. They just love being outside but haven’t enjoyed the long winter at all, preferring to stay curled up in their beds or on one of ours! They love the countryside and lighter evenings and spend hours outside chasing around and hunting, they often bring us little creatures as presents which we try to catch and set them free again."
Alex adopted rags just over a year ago. According to her, "He has settled in so well, he loves cuddles on the sofa and watching tv, especially anything with animals in, he enjoys countryfile and likes to run round the back of the tv to find the sheep! He can sometimes be grumpy with other dogs and he is very protective and has a very loud bark but when he gets to know people, he is a big softie." He certainly looks it!
