Safe & Secure with PAWS
PAWS are delighted to offer the use of a secure field for local residents to bring their dogs.
In Calderdale we’re lucky enough to have lots of green spaces, hills and countryside in which to take our dogs for a good walk. However, some dogs have more special needs – nervous dogs or dogs with a high prey drive that rarely get an opportunity to have a good run & play off lead.
At PAWS, we are dedicated to the welfare of animals and we have recognised that there’s a need for a fully secure dog walking field, that can be booked for sole use to give your dog(s) a safe & relaxing environment for a good run! Each timeslot is for 30 minutes and we allow up to 3 dogs per visit, so you can use the field with a friend or family member and their dog(s) too.
The field
The field is surrounded by 7ft high, stock proof fencing on the outside with wire fencing on the inside. It is 88ft x 140ft or 12,320 ft².
The field already has many meadow wildflowers and we have been working to enrich the site further with tree & shrub planting – as they mature, the site will become more and more attractive. We have also planted hedging which will soon provide a visual barrier around the perimeter of the field to shield the view of livestock in the adjoining fields.
Below is an overview of our terms of use - click here for full terms and conditions, which you will be required to agree to when you book and which will be re-iterated during your induction. Failure to adhere to any aspect of our terms and conditions may result in your access to the facility being permanently revoked.
Induction
-
We require all new clients to have an induction upon the first visit - please select 'intro visit' the first time you book the field. This will let us know to be ready to carry out the induction when you arrive and will add 10 minutes to your initial session (you will still have 30 minutes to use the field following the induction).
-
You will be required to sign a document after the induction to confirm you understand and agree to the terms and conditions of use. Any deviation to the t's and c's could result in your access being permanently revoked.
-
Owners must ensure that all dogs using the facility have been vaccinated, flea, worm and tick treated. (Puppies must have had a full set of vaccinations before entry to the facility. Please bring your dog's vaccination record with you to the initial visit and induction.
-
All dogs must wear their collars with an up-to-date name/address tag and be micro-chipped. Your dog will be checked for a microchip during the induction process on your first visit. (All dogs are required by law to wear a collar and tag and be micro-chipped).
-
All dog trainers & professional dog walkers must provide a copy of their Professional Indemnity and/or Public Liability Insurance at the induction to be granted permission to use the field facility. If you are unable to provide PAWS with these copies, then permission to use the field will be withheld. Insurances must be kept up-to-date and valid for the intended duration of the use of the exercise area.
Opening times & availability
-
Please note the field is only open at specific times, for safety reasons.
-
The booking system will show you what timeslots are available to be booked.
Bookings & cancellations
-
Use of the field is strictly by appointment only.
-
Bookings can only be made online and are non-transferable.
-
Your booked timeslot includes the time it takes you to return to your vehicle - you must vacate the car park no later than the end of your booked session.
-
You must notify us within 24 hours notice if you wish to cancel a booking & obtain a refund. Refunds will be made at the end of each week. No refunds will be given if you cancel a booking with less than 24 hours notice or if you do not turn up for the session you have booked.
Facilities
-
There is a basic rain-proof shed to provide shelter on drizzly, wet days. However, you must bring your own dog toys and take them with you when you leave.
-
You must also bring your own water & bowl for your dog, we are not on mains water.
-
There are no toilet facilities available.
-
Car parking is available in the designated area at the front of the main PAWS' facility. This is for a maximum of 2 cars per visit (e.g. where you and a friend/family member have booked the field together).
Health & Safety
-
You will not be chaperoned during visits subsequent to your induction. There will always be someone available on site who can provide first aid or assistance if required, but you will need to call the contact number you are given. Please be aware that this person will generally be busy carrying out tasks for our rescue animals, so only call if you really need to!
-
If your dog(s) or any dog(s) they live with are showing any signs of ill-health (coughing, diarrhoea, vomiting, general illness, lethargy, etc) you will cancel any pending booking. This is to ensure the continued good health of all the dogs who visit or the rescue dogs on site who use the off-lead area. Some dogs may be very young/old and/or have compromised immune systems making them more susceptible to illness.
-
Please take your dog waste (and any litter) with you. (We have to pay for animal waste to be disposed of and it is very costly).
-
If your dog has a poo please use the garden sprayer provided to disinfect the area where it has been after you have picked up the faeces. This helps keep any germ transmission to a minimum.
-
The area is a countryside-based facility and as such although we maintain it, there may be stones, uneven ground, water and a small pond in the field.
-
The field and fencing will be inspected daily to ensure it is intact and secure, but please notify us if you have any concerns.
-
Owners should discourage their dogs from digging and any resultant holes must be filled in prior to leaving the field please.
-
The facility may get wet and muddy (especially in the winter months) so users must ensure they wear suitable footwear.
-
Please remove all your personal items when you leave the field as they could cause a choking hazard to other dogs, especially broken toys.
-
Any children under the care and/or control of a customer must be supervised at all times.
-
No dog should be tethered at any time to any of the fencing structures on site i.e. gate, fence, posts, etc.
-
Do not climb on any gates, fencing or posts.
-
PAWS will ensure that the field is regularly sprayed with a veterinary grade disinfectant to minimise the transmission of germs from dog to dog.
Entering & Exiting the Off-lead Area
-
The parking area & route to the secure field is not fully fenced or secure. ALL owners must keep their dogs on a lead at all times until you have reached the secure field.
-
Access from the carpark to the secure field will be signposted & explained to you during the induction.
-
Please ensure you shut the gate securely when you enter and exit the exercise area.
-
Before exiting the field please re-attach a lead to your dog(s) and walk it/them back down to the parking area ensuring that gates are closed behind you as you go.
-
Customers waiting to access the field must remain in their vehicle(s) whilst the car park is vacated by the previous users.
-
If you are late entering the exercise area, your booking will still end at the allotted time. You should make sure you leave the site on time and do not cause delay to other parties who have booked an exercise slot. Dogs MUST NOT MEET in the car park and should remain in the vehicle at all times until the previous customer has left the site.
Right of Entry
-
PAWS staff and volunteers will be allowed access at any time onto the land to carry out inspections and only decisions made by PAWS regarding safety and fitness of use, will be binding.
